The Westport Weston Health District has ordered Westport’s beaches closed to swimming Wednesday because of recent heavy rains, the town’s Parks and Recreation Department said today.
The rains have caused high bacterial counts in the water necessitating the one-day ban on swimming at Compo Beach, Old Mill Beach and Burying Hill Beach, the department said.
It said the beaches will reopen for swimming on Thursday.
The state Department of Environmental Protection announced that Westport’s Sherwood Island State Park beaches also would be closed to swimming.
