Weather Service Warns of Dangers of Accumulated Snow

Today’s roof collapse at the former Cedar Brook Café on Westport’s Post Road East came hours after the National Weather Service issued a special statement warning of the dangers of accumulated snow on roofs. It said 3 to 5 inches of snow water equivalent is in the current snow pack after recent storms, resulting in “a tremendous amount of weight per square foot.” The statement added: “Now is the time for residents and building owners to take preventative action to safely remove snow from flat roof tops and decks.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) WestportNow.com photo
