As we look to celebrate the first Valentine’s Day of the new decade, I am nostalgic when I think about what the town of Westport means to me.

Not only is it where my husband grew up, it’s where we had our first date (Splash), it’s where we had our wedding (The Inn at Longshore), where we’ve celebrated countless birthdays with friends, run in the Minute Man Race and spent many lazy days at the beach.

Like many people, we’ve made a tradition out of attending the fireworks at Compo Beach on the 4th of July, and brought our son for the first time as a baby last summer (photo No. 1).

Shortly after that we hosted his very memorable first birthday party “by the cannons,” (photo No. 2 is my extended family) it was so wonderful to share with them a place that means so much to us as a family!

Dear Lovey,

Since 1980, you’ve been my lady.

It’s now past 2009, and all is looking fine.

Dancing with you at the Levitt on a balmy summer evening….priceless.

Our Dear Johnny, Image

We love you so much, you make every moment fun and exciting.

The most romantic spot I can think of in Westport, is between Old Mill Beach and Compo Beach where the benches overlook the water. Image

I have spent many mornings and evenings sitting there (alone and with my significant other!) and find it to be not only romantic but beautiful in every way.

The sunrise and sunsets overlooking the water always include having the seagulls flying overhead and the sound and smell of the water. The people you meet all seem to be enjoying the same. It is just beautiful!

Some people come into our lives and quietly go.
Others stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same.
But the beauty of life does not depend on how happy you are, but on how happy others can be because of you.

To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might just be the world.

The randomness with which
Stardust and
mix their filament
now crafts a sculpture
of desire’s embrace
that is wondered upon
by the masses that gather
to watch love’s infinitesimal bliss.

(My husband is Fire Marshall Terry Dunn. I work for the Police Department. We met in Westport several years ago and are now married with a son Terry III. It was odd in the beginning when we first started dating because of the supposed “rivalry” between the police and fire. Even though every so often we still get the “jokes” we have made it happen. The following is a couple of lines that I have put together for my husband.)

It seems like yesterday… the day that I met you,
It was twist of fate because I was not suppose to be there,
Even though it was love, that day that I met you.
It has been wonderful, I do have to say
The day I said “I do” was the perfect day.
So remember that when you look into my eyes,
I love you with all my heart,
I have given you all of my soul,
Right from the very start.

Happy Valentine’s, Terry

With love,
Your wife Flor.
______ ImagePeople always ask us if it was ‘love at first sight’—or if we even dated in 10th grade at Staples.  That didn’t happen until nearly 30 years later, and now we’ve been married for 15—but if we didn’t have this homeroom photo from the 1964 Staples yearbook, I’m not sure that either of would actually remember the other (or much else from the 60s.)  So this isn’t really a Valentine’s Day story (though it has a happy ending)—but it does explain the similarity of our names…:)

______ ImageKen and I just celebrated our 43rd anniversary, but the years have sped by.  It all started when I went up to him in NYC, batted my eyes (hey, it was the 60s, pre-women’s lib) and said, “I hear you went to Bates [College].”

I know it’s love because no one is as decent, caring, good-looking and clever as Ken. He moved back to my childhood home, makes me laugh with corny jokes, never yells or puts me down, gives to others (driving hospice patients to appointments and helping WHS’s oral history), and I thank God every day for bringing us together.

Young love in our twilight years!

We’ve celebrated 27 happy valentine’s days….please be my valentine for the 28th time!!!
