The British Were Here

Wendy Van Wie, who owns the house at 188 Cross Highway with Mark Yurkiw, points to an indentation in the front door that records say was caused by a British-fired musket ball. The house, which received a Westport Historical Society (WHS) historic plaque, was built c.1728 by Samuel Meeker and remained in the Meeker family for five generations until 1917, according to Bob Weingarten, WHS plaque historian.
