The nationally recognized professional theater serves an estimated annual audience of 60,000.

“Westport Country Playhouse is profoundly grateful for the support of Fairfield County’s Community Foundation for our 2016 Season,” said Michael Ross, Playhouse managing director.

“This vital funding will allow us to continue to produce world-class theater, offer a broad array of enhanced programming, and serve as a cultural gathering place for the entire region.

“As a nonprofit theater, it is only with the support of organizations like Fairfield County’s Community Foundation that the Playhouse can offer everyone the opportunity to be transported by the power of live theater,” he added.

The Playhouse’s five-play 2016 season includes two Tony Award-winning plays staged in repertory, directed by Mark Lamos, from May 3 to 29:  “Art” by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton; and “Red” by John Logan. Each of the plays is about art: making it, owning it, the anguish of creating it, and the ache of believing in it.

Fairfield County’s Community Foundation, according to its mission,  promotes philanthropy to create change in Fairfield County, focusing on innovative and collaborative solutions to critical issues impacting the community.

Officials said that individuals, families, corporations and organizations can establish charitable funds or contribute to existing funds.

The Community Foundation is in compliance with the Council on Foundations’ national standards, and has awarded $197.8 million in grants to nonprofits in Fairfield County and beyond. For further information, visit www.fccfoundation.org.
