Susan S. Sheinbaum, 77

Susan Sargoy Sheinbaum of Westport died Nov. 23. She was 77.

Born to Edward and Celia Sargoy, she spent her early years in New Rochelle, N.Y. She attended New Rochelle High School, the University of Michigan and received a B.S. from Columbia Teachers College.

After graduating Columbia she worked as an editor at The New York Times. In 1965, she married Richard (Dick) Sheinbaum, and in 1973 they moved to Westport with their two children. She continued to work as a freelance editor and eventually took a position with the Fairfield Citizen News, where she worked for 13 years.

She is survived by her daughter Andi Dinitz of Westport and her son Peter Sheinbaum of Boulder, Colo. She was the mother-in-law of Andrew Dinitz and Laura Griffin Sheinbaum and grandmother of Sophie and Noah Dinitz and Charlee and Zac Sheinbaum. She was predeceased by her husband Dick.

During her years in Westport, she was active in the League of Women Voters of Westport, Temple Israel, and Project Return. She was an avid reader and loved antiquing, bridge, and collecting art.

The funeral will be held Friday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. at Temple Israel, 14 Coleytown Road, followed by interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Queens, N.Y.

The family welcomes visitors on Friday after the burial and on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the home of Andi and Andrew Dinitz, 7 Terhune Drive, Westport.

Shiva will also be observed on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 6 to 9 p.m., with a minyan at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday, Nov. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m, with a minyan at 5:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Project Return in Westport.
