The Staples High School Varsity Cheerleaders today began a two-day car wash at Kowalsky Brothers, 1141 Post Road East from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. One of the first customers was First Selectman Jim Marpe. Pictured (l-r) Sophie Tricarico, Julia Ethier, Grace Miller, Marpe, his Bernese Mountain dog Olivia, and Annsley Martin. The cheerleaders hope to raise $20,000 to support their program through the car wash and other fundraising efforts. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Contributed photo

Clarification- SHS Cheer doesn’t have the funding structure other teams at Staples do, so a LOT of fundraising is required to pay for choreography, custom music for competitions, competition fees, tumbling and stunting coaches, etc. They (we) DO need to raise $20K, but do not plan to do ALL of that during the car wash this weekend. There will be several fundraisers throughout the year:
~Look for the Cheer Parents to be selling the Fancy Schmancy (and uber-delish) Munson’s chocolate bars and baked goods at the Wreckers home games this year, as well as souvenirs.
~There will be a Pepe’s Pizza fundraiser coming up in October
~Look for cheerleaders outside local stores selling the Munson’s chocolates. Fancy Schmancy chocolate bars are fantastic (non-denominational!) holiday gifts!
These amazing young women train hard and take great pride in the shows they put on in support of the Wreckers teams and at local competitions in the spring; they are a team of whom the whole Westport Community should be proud.
Thanks for your support, and we hope to see a lot of you out at the carwash tomorrow, Sunday August 28th from 10-4 !
Extra Special thanks to Kowalski Brothers for letting us use your facilities! (Post Road & Morningside!)
