The Staples boys soccer team missed several golden scoring opportunities early, then Stamford took advantage of a series of defensive miscues to forge a 5-2 victory today at the Black Knights’ new turf field.
Staples narrowed the 4-0 gap with two quick second half goals, by Eric Meyer and Keaton Cristobal (both off Colin Nangle feeds), but the hosts added an insurance tally to regain the momentum.
“We win as a team, and today we lost as a team,” said head coach Dan Woog. “Now Saturday’s match—and every one from here on in—is huge.”
The Wreckers host New Canaan Saturday at 10 a.m., at Albie Loeffler Field.
