Event planners are asking area residents to “brave a shave” for the 12th Annual Team Brent St Baldrick’s Celebration fundraiser set for Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Westport Family YMCA at 14 Allen Raymond Lane.
The annual event, which this year has already topped its $100,000 goal toward child cancer research, will feature opening ceremonies with sportscaster Deb Placey and St. Baldrick’s Chairman Elect Mike McCreesh.
In addition to buzz cuts, the event will also feature face painting, a DJ, baked goods, pizza and burgers. And new this year will be masseuses giving chair massages in exchange for donations to St. Baldrick’s.
Registration begins at noon, and following 12:30 p.m. opening ceremonies, head shaving, face and head painting will commence.
Healthy adults ages 18-44 will also be invited to join the 112 others that have signed up for the Be The Match bone marrow registry at TeamBrent events, event planners say. The registry services patients who need a matching, unrelated donor willing to donate stem cells on their behalf for a transplant.
Leading that event will be Tom Sicotte in honor of his daughter, Anna, who remains cancer free as a result of her match.
