Snow and slippery roads caused several crashes tonight in the Westport area, according to police and fire reports.
Westport police responded to a car into a building on Riverside Avenue and Sunrise Road shortly after 8 p.m. The crash occurred after witnesses said a pickup truck slid into the car and then took off.
Police said the pickup was traced to a Norwalk address. There were no injuries, but the car had to be towed from the scene.
Meanwhile, several crashes were reported on I-95 and the Merritt Parkway as snow-covered roads became extremely slippery.
Two persons were transported by Westport EMS to Norwalk Hospital from an I-95 crash near the bridge over the Saugatuck River, according to reports from the scene.
“It’s like an ice rink out here,” said one Westport police officer.
Westport Public Works Department trucks were called out to sand the roads.
The National Weather Service said “black ice” conditions would persist through the night and urged extreme caution on the roadways.
