shaysmarch042504.jpg
Rep. Christopher Shays, Westport’s congressman,  marched in Sunday’s abortion rights march in Washington, D.C., too. WestportNow Tuesday carried a picture showing his Democratic rival, Westport First Selectwoman Diane G. Farrell, at Sunday’s march and is happy to offer “equal time.” Here he is with wife, Betsi, (l) and another unidentified woman. Shays is a member of The Republican Pro-Choice Coalition. Photo ops not withstanding, Chris has the worst current voting record amongst the Connecticut Congressional delegation on issues of Choice.  He supported the anti-DNX bill - the so-called “partial birth” abortion ban - and was the only member of Connecticut’s delegation to do so.  In doing so, he both voted for a bill banning a safe abortion procedure and voted for a bill that did not allow for exceptions to protect a woman’s health.  If Chris wants to vote as a “pro-lifer,” he should stay home from pro-Choice rallies rather than pandering for votes from constituents more progressive than he on the issue at hand.
