Searching for Westport’s History

WestportNow.com Image
A team of archeological specialists under the auspices of Westport’s Historic District Commission collected electronic data today from the soil in the area of the Green’s Farms Cemetery in search of the location of the historic West Parish Colonial Church, built in 1738, and destroyed by British troops in 1779.  The goal of the archeological team, led by Nicholas Bellatoni, Ph.D., a State of Connecticut archeologist, was to identify the foundation of the church to further document Westport’s history dating to the early 18th century. According to Peter Jennings of the Westport Historical Society the results of today’s findings will be reported in a few weeks. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
