She was born to the late Gerald and Marie Schaffer Dec. 10, 1937, in Tell City, Ind. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School 1956 where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She married the love of her life, Donald Roth in 1957.

At the age of 40, she earned a double degree in history and English literature while raising three children.

An avid reader and student of life, she loved to travel and learn about the world around her and was happiest when surrounded by her family,

She took great pride in the achievements of her children and grandchildren and was a “super fan” at all stages of their lives - cheering at the sidelines of sporting events, concerts and plays.

She was an active member of Calvary United Protestant Church in Park Forest, Ill.. from 1960 until 1980 and then with the United Methodist Church in Westport.

Her kind and giving nature touched many in the church community, where she worked tirelessly with the United Methodist Women and CCA, now merged with Person to Person.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, their three children and their spouses: Jeanne and Joe Galvin of Weston, Roger and Rebecca Roth of Weston, and David Roth and Kerry Long of Trumbull.

She is survived by six grandchildren, Katie Galvin MacDonald and her husband Michael, John Galvin, Julia Roth, Charlotte Roth, Lucy Roth. She is also survived by her sister Gayle Gunter and husband Jesse.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the United Methodist Church of Westport/Weston or to Person to Person, 76 South Main St. Norwalk, CT 06854.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, Sept. 26 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 49 Weston Road. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. also at the United Methodist Church.
