Anyone missing a white bird? (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Richard Epstein for WestportNow.com
A resident of Westport’s Red Coat Road noticed an unusual visitor to his backyard today and wondered whether the white bird is somebody’s pet.
“This almost pure-white bird flew into my backyard this afternoon,” said Dr. Richard Epstein in an e-mail to WestportNow.
“It certainly looked out of place among the sparrows, cardinals, finches and blue jays. I have bird feeders suspended in the windows in my dental office on Red Coat Road that look out on the gardens, and the bird was certainly hungry!
“It appears to be a pet – there is a metal band on the right leg, and the coloring is white with some blue blush – it looks like some sort of a white parrot or parakeet.”

a white monk parakeet?
You’re close Diane :-)
Albino budgerigar, parakeet. Not monk parakeet. The pale blue coloring shows a little and the cere over the beak is obvious. Anyway, someone’s pet that escaped.
I hope whoever lost it will try to find it or someone will adopt it.
clearly could be picked off by a crow or flying predator, but other than that, how do we know Albino budgerigar, parakeet could not make it through the winter here? —not prepared to
build a nest? —and in safe place?
On August 17 - there was a listing on Craigslist under “free” section in Fairfield County.
“I will give free to anyone who loves budgerigars, etc….”
It has since been deleted yet it causes one to wonder - did this owner abandon it? or did the owner sadly turn it over to someone else who did?
the timing is odd indeed.
