UPDATE A pickup truck rollover on Westport’s Clinton Avenue early today damaged a power pole and left police searching for the driver who was located several hours later, police said.
Police said the driver called 911 after the crash at about 3:15 a.m. in the area of 69 Clinton Ave. But arriving police and fire units found only the vehicle on its side and no driver, said Sgt. Richard Frazier.
“They conducted a search using thermal imaging and dogs for tracking,” he said, to no avail until officers were finally able to get in touch with the registered owner this morning. “It’s still under investigation,” Frazier said.
The driver was located in Wilton with his brother and went to Norwalk Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to earlier reports from the scene.
It took more than an hour for police to gain access into the interior of the vehicle because it was energized, the reports said.
A Connecticut Light and Power Company crew arrived on the scene shortly after the accident to deal with the damaged pole and cut power so police could secure the scene.
The crew was still at work after daybreak today.
