Westport police early today arrested a 22-year-old Pennsylvania man on sexual assault and other charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman at a Hale’s Court address.
Charles Ayala of Upper Darby, Pa. was charged with sexual assault fourth-degree, burglary first-degree, unlawful restraint second-degree, and creating a public disturbance, police said. He was held on $25,000 bond for a court appearance today.
The incident began with a 12:30 a.m. call at a Hale’s Court address on a report of a disturbance, said Lt. David Farrell.
A woman who lives at the address told police she awoke to find her son’s friend, Ayala, standing over her while in she was in bed, unbuckling his pants, Farrell said. She pushed him away, ran to a neighbor’s home where she took refuge, as Ayala followed.
“Officers determined that Ayala and the son of the female victim were partying at the victim’s home and a home on Inwood Lane earlier in the night,” Farrell said.
“While at the victim’s home, Ayala became intoxicated, so the victim’s son brought Ayala back to the Inwood Lane address and left him in a vehicle for the night.”
However, Ayala returned to the victim’s address around midnight and entered the residence, Farrell said.
“Ayala proceeded to enter the female victim’s bedroom while she was sleeping,” Farrell said. “The female victim awoke to Ayala turning the lights on as he was walking towards her and attempting to unbuckle his pants. The female victim was able to push by Ayala and ran downstairs. “
Ayala, however, followed the victim downstairs, “and as she grabbed her coat, he touched the female victim inappropriately outside her clothing with his hands,” Farrell said.
The woman then ran to the kitchen, grabbed her phone ran out of the house to a neighbor’s home, Farrell said.
“As the female victim was banging on a neighbor’s door for help, Ayala placed both of his hands on her shoulders and began pulling her towards him,” Farrell said. “The neighbor opened the door, pulled the female victim inside and told Ayala to leave. “
Ayala then went back inside the female victim’s home, Farrell said. He added that the female victim was not injured as a result of this incident.
