Playhouse Sponsors Student Writing Contest

Westport Country Playhouse invites students to participate in an “Exploring Language” writing contest as part of the March production of “On the Verge (or The Geography of Yearning).”

The contest is open to middle and high school students attending schools in Fairfield County.  Participants are asked to choose a word—or make up a word of their own—define and explain its origin, and use the word in a story about exploration that is 400 words or less.

Students may accompany their essays with a drawing or collage no larger than 8 ½” x 11”.

All essay entries, and optional artwork, must be postmarked by Friday, March 3, and sent to:  “Exploring Language” Writing Contest, Westport Country Playhouse, 25 Powers Court, Westport, CT 06880.

Four winners will be chosen, and they will be invited, along with their families, to attend the Sunday, March 19 matinee performance of “On the Verge,” followed by a pizza party.

The winning essays will be featured on display in the lobby of Westport Country Playhouse for the run of “On the Verge.”

In addition, members of the artistic staff for “On the Verge” will visit the winners’ schools, where they will present the award and the winner will read his/her entry.
