Officers arrested three Brooklyn men on larceny, forgery and conspiracy charges following an attempt to withdraw funds from a fraudulent check that had been deposited at Citibank, 880 Post Road East, police said today.
Arrested on Monday were Divine Little, 20, Mikequan Brown, 22, and Rayon Williams, 20, said Lt. David Farrell.
According to Farrell, the incident unfolded when officers responded to a report that an individual successfully deposited a phony check “and was now attempting to withdraw funds from the 399 Post Road West branch.
“The forged check was manipulated by changing the routing number to reflect a Citibank account, which would then allow the funds to be available almost immediately for withdrawal,” Farrell said. “Bank employees did not complete the transaction.”
He said the suspect left the branch in a vehicle prior to police arrival. It was located a short time later and stopped in front of 333 Post Road West by Westport officers.
“Suspect Divine Little was positively identified by bank personnel as the suspect who entered the bank and attempted to withdraw the funds,” Farrell said.
“Suspect Rayon Williams was the driver of the vehicle, and suspect Mikequan Brown was found to be in possession of fraudulent checks and fraudulent money orders.
Each suspect was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond, and they are scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Thursday, Aug. 3.
