Paul Newman Could Become Westport Selectman in Recall Election

Its a slow August for news, so a Middletown newspaper got to wondering whether there could be a California-style recall election in Connecticut involving well-known entertainers.

It asked the Connecticut Secretary of the StateҒs office which came up with the answer on a state-wide level no, but there are five municipalities among the state֒s 169 towns and cities where it could happen. Westport is one of them.

The Middletown Press quoted Marisa Morello, legislative liaison for Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, as saying: “We have no recall provisions for governor here in this state. Weve had bill proposals, similar to the California provisions, as recent as last session, but a decision never seem to be made.”

The newspaper added: ғHowever, Morello did say there are five municipalities, New Haven, Bristol, Milford, Stratford and Westport, that have had municipal recall provisions in place since the 1950s. Morello indicated the municipal provisions were part of a special act of the legislature.

So, that means screen legend Paul Newman, a Westport resident, couldnԒt make a run for governor in a recall, but he could replace one of his hometowns selectmen.

“ҒIn any of those five municipalities anything is possible, Morello said. ґBut as for anyone becoming governor through the same sort of circumstances that California is facing now, it just couldnt be possible, not under Connecticut law.Ғ

There’s no word where Newman stands on dogs at the beaches, school starting times, the use of Baron’s South or Winslow Park, or bridge naming. But one could always speculate. After all, it is August. And there is still time to petition to run for the RTM.

I understand Paul Newman went to the Kerry fund raiser and told the audience he didn’t like the Bush tax cuts, and that he said “I’m too rich.”
Is that right? If you have two chickens in your pot then send one to everyone in this country that only has one chicken in their pot. Or….maybe we should stop going to see your movies. Or….maybe
we should stop buying all your food-stuffs even if all goes to help children. Don’t kid us we Paul we know you get big brakes on all that “dirty money” you make or give away. Or…move to cuba, I’m sure Castro would be glad to relieve you of every dime you have.  Or.. the biggest thing you can do for us who does not give a fig about your money or your politics….is keep your mouth shut!!! As for me I think I will just pass you and your products up.  I thought you had more class them most “gollywoodites”.....I guess not.
