Paul L. Starzyk, 61

Born May 27, 1949 in Bridgeport, he grew up in Westport and was a proud graduate of the University of Connecticut with a degree in industrial engineering. While attending UConn, he also served as president of the Beta Sigma Gamma fraternity.

Upon graduation he joined Timex, rising to the position of worldwide training manager, later working with Smith & Wesson. In 1986, Paul discovered Naples, owning and operating the Naples Pet Center.

In 1994, Paul found his passion, working with and advocating for adults with special needs with TECH of Collier County, Inc., now known as Sunrise Community of Collier County.

At the time of his passing, he was serving as the executive director for Sunrise in Naples and Clewiston. He also served as the vice chairman for the local coordinating board for the transportation disadvantaged as well as being active with the Public School Partners in Transition; United Way Partners in Community Way; and the Florida Gulf Coast University Able Trust.

Paul is survived by his parents, Michael and Galy Starzyk; his spiritual wife of 21 years, Joyce Graham; his daughters, Rachael Wolff (Kevin), and Rebecca Wilson (Stephen): stepdaughters, Jennifer Shaw Swart (Pieter), and Kris Shaw Johnston (Tony); the mother of his children, Mary Olderich (Carl); his sister, Nona Starzyk; and his nine beloved grandchildren who lovingly called him, Pop Pop, AJ, Lily, Cam, Aidan, Ally, Kyle, Mal, Pieter, and Ian.

Paul’s Memorial Celebration will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples. Friends are invited to gather at 4:30 p.m. to share their special memories with the family and join in the celebration of his life at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Paul respectfully requested that donations in his honor be made to support his ‘special’ family at Sunrise Community/TECH of Collier County, Inc., 3984 Arnold Avenue, Naples, FL 34104.
