A Town of Westport Parks and Recreation Department employee escaped serious injury today in a crash in front of 77 Long Lots Road. The driver told police he swerved to avoid a deer darting across the road, hit a tree, and then careened into a stone wall, turning his pickup truck on its side. The worker, who was en route to do some maintenance at Staples High School and the Wakeman Fields, was taken by Westport EMS to Norwalk Hospital for observation. Which is why one should never swerve to avoid an animal in the road. Brake, yes. Swerve, no.
Maybe it would be better if there was no deer there in the first place. This is getting a little out of hand.
I wholeheartedly agree. They’re overrunning Westport. Time for some thinning.
