NWS Update: Winter Storm Warning, 4-9 Inches

The National Weather Service, in an update to its Winter Storm Warning for Westport and area, said snow accumulation of 4 to 9 inches is expected.

The warning remains in effect from 7 p.m. today to 6 p.m. Monday.

It said heavy snow will fall late tonight into Monday morning, changing to a mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, then changing back to snow in the afternoon.

In addition to the snow accumulation, there will an ice accumulation of around one-quarter to one-half inch of ice, the Weather Service said.

Winds will be from the east 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph in the morning. There will be northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph late Monday, it said

Visibilities will be one-quarter mile or less at times late tonight into early Monday morning. Snowfall rates will be occasionally 1 to 2 inches per hour late tonight into early Monday morning.
