For the second successive year, department members are taking part in the web-based, nonprofit organization devoted to growing cancer awareness and raising funds to support cancer prevention, research, and education.

Officer Brendan Fearon, president of the local Patrolmen’s Benefit Association (PBA), said, last year Westport officers were able to raise approximately $4,200 for cancer research.

The officers will also be donating to Homes with Hope, a Westport-based organization dedicated to helping the homeless locally.

For the months of November and December, department members are authorized to grow beards to donate to these two causes, an announcement said.

In order to participate, officers are making a donation of $75 each, which will be divided between to the two organizations.

“This is a great opportunity to build off of the enthusiasm for No Shave November, and also help a one of our local efforts,” said Police Chief Foti Koskinas.

The team is accepting public donations that can be made online here for No Shave November and here for Homes With Hope (fill in Westport Police in the “In Honor Of” section.)

Donations can also be made in the form of cash or check, written to Officer Fearon or Officer Scinto of the Westport Police Department, 50 Jesup Road, Westport, CT 06880.  All donations are tax-deductible.
