Monty D. Kaufman, 61

Monty Dorn Kaufman of Weston, co-owner of Puppies of Westport in Norwalk, formerly in Westport, died Aug. 29. He was 61.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Ruth Dorn Kaufman and Albert Silver. His mother and the late Robert Kaufman raised him. He graduated from New York University with his Bachelors in 1975 and his JD in 1978.

Kaufman and his wife Lauren opened Puppies of Westport at 420 Post Road West in Westport in July 2006 and later moved it to 255 Westport Ave. in Norwalk.

He had a zealous personality that persisted throughout his life, his family said. A true dog lover, gardener, poet, and creative spirit, he brought his enthusiasm to life and all of his pursuits.

He is survived by his wife, Lauren Meren, and daughters, Lindsey Robertson (Husband Douglas), of Summit N.J., and Kyra Kaufman, of Cambridge, Mass., and stepchildren, Ilyssa Meren, of Ames, Iowa, and Maxx Meren, of New York, N.Y. Two grandchildren also survive him.

Funeral arrangements are private. Donations can be made to: the Amyloidosis Foundation, Inc., 7151 N. Main St., Suite 2, Clarkston, MI 48346.
