Bank suspect: caught on video. Contributed photoUPDATE A man robbed a bank at Westport’s Stop & Shop supermarket today near the Fairfield line, police said.
The robbery at the People’s United Bank branch inside the store at 1790 Post Road East occurred at 11:20 a.m. The amount of money taken was not immediately known.
Police said the robber approached the counter, demanded money, and then left by the store’s east exit. A note was recovered at the scene. The man, described as about 5-foot-7, in his 50s, and wearing a black jacket, jeans, and sunglasses, did not display a weapon, police said.
Police were not sure whether he escaped on foot or in a vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the suspect should contact the detective bureau at (203)341-6080.
