Gov. Dannel P. Malloy today riders of Metro-North’s New Haven Line to seek alternate service and avoid taking the train today if at all possible, due to the loss of Con Edison feeders that supply power to the line between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal.
Extremely limited train service using diesel locomotives between Grand Central and Stamford is now in effect, running hourly and making all local stops to Stamford. Electric train service between New Haven and Stamford will continue to operate.
Metro-North is warning that this service plan can accommodate 10 percent of the regular ridership on the New Haven Line, Malloy’s office said.
As a result, customers should seek alternate service and expect crowded conditions, the governor said. Malloy will hold a news briefing from the State Emergency Operations Center in Hartford at 4 p.m. today to provide updates.
