Lorna B. Christophersen, a former member of Westport’s Board of Education and Representative Town Meeting (RTM), died today in a Wilton health care center, a funeral home spokesman said. She was 76.
Christophersen served on the RTM twice—from 1971 to 1977 and from 1982 to 1995, making her among the longest serving members on the legislative body. She was on the Board of Education from 1977 to 1981.
A longtime member of the Republican Town Committee, Christophersen was often brash and outspoken in her quest to make Westport a better place to live.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at Westport Town Hall, according to the Harding Funeral Home.

It was with sadness that my husband and I learned of Lorna’s passing last weekend. Lorna Christophersen was a dynamic presence in our town for a long time. We got to meet her shortly after moving here almost 30 years ago. Lorna spoke her mind, and she spoke it straight from her heart. You always knew exactly where she stood. Dedicated and sincere, Lorna was deeply committed to the town where she made her home and willingly gave so much of herself.
Her presence will be missed, but her memory will live with those who knew her, for a long time to come.
Deepest sympathies to her family.
