Leona E. Feeney, 97

Leona E. Feeney of Needham, Mass., a former Westport resident, died Sept. 24 at Care One Nursing Home in Northampton. She was 97.

She was born Feb. 21, 1919, in St Albans, Vt., ,the daughter of the late Yves and Bessie Enizan. After graduating from Bellows Free Academy in 1936, she moved to Westport where she met and married Charles “Charlie” Feeney in 1938.

A self-taught bookkeeper, she was employed at Greenberg’s Department Store in Westport for 25 years and then as an office manager for a local dentist for an additional 15 years.

Known by friends and family as Lee, she resided in Westport until after the death of her husband in 1975 and moved to Needham. She continued to work in the retail business at Calverts in Needham until she retired at the age of 80.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed sewing, traveling and spending time in a much loved summer cottage in South Bristol, Maine. She was an avid reader and an ardent dog lover.

She is survived by her daughter Colleen Schaller of Needham; granddaughter Kyle Schaller and her partner Jana Moe of Leeds; her grandson Adam Schaller and his wife Maria Paz of North Andover; and four great-grandchildren, Oliver, Sarah, Blanca Schaller and Phoebe Schaller–Moe.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. at Saint. Luke Church in Westport followed by burial at Willowbrook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Riverside Industries, 1 Cottage St., Easthampton, MA 01027, or to the MSPCA, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
