Anne Keefe, former Westport Country Playhouse associate artistic director, now has a place on the playhouse’s Board of Directors.

She took the position on Wednesday.

Keefe returns to her roots where she began her affiliation with Westport Country Playhouse seven years ago when she was first appointed to the board in 1999.

She served as ex-officio member of the board for the last five years since she was appointed associate artistic director by Joanne Woodward in 2001.

She resigned her full-time status effective Tuesday.

“Annie has been a caretaker of this institution for so many years and has served it well,” said Woodward, who is now artistic director emeritus. “We are thrilled that she is returning to the board where she will continue to lend her talent and expertise serving as a trustee.”

Playhouse Artistic Director Tazewell Thompson worked with Keefe during the first months of his tenure, but has known her much longer.

“I have known Anne Keefe since we began our careers together at McCarter Theatre in Princeton, and she is one of the principal reasons that I agreed to come to the Playhouse,” he said. “I knew that Anne would bring me much valued perspective and tremendous ideas and inspiration as associate artistic director.

“She has been a guiding force in the renaissance of Westport Country Playhouse along with Joanne Woodward and Alison Harris, former executive director.  Anne will bring great institutional memory, leadership and vision to her role on the board as we move forward to a new era for the Playhouse.”
