Born in Philadelphia in 1930, he was a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School, LaSalle College, and the University of Pennsylvania.

He worked for many years at General Reinsurance Corporation, retiring as senior vice president.

His integrity and judgment won the respect of his peers in the investment community and he served on many industry committees, including the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board.

In his retirement he was an active member of the Westport Weston Y’s Men, where he led the hiking group and served on the board.

He was greatly loved by Mary DeCourcey Cregan, his wife of 62 years; his children John (Lisa), Mary (Jamie), Kathleen (Donnie), Tom (Renée), Nora (Al), Michael (Ellen); his grandchildren Maura, Courtney, Mac, James, Lauren, Hannah, Jack, Michael, Elizabeth, and Luke; and all his extended family and friends.

Donations in his memory may be made through the websites of Fairfield County Hospice House, the Nature Conservancy of Connecticut, or Catholic Charities of Fairfield County.
