James A. Powers: 70-year Westporter. Contributed photoJames “Chick A. Powers Sr., 85, of Sabattus, Maine, husband of Hazel (James) Powers, and a native of Westport, passed away Tuesday, May 18 at home
Born Aug. 27, 1924, in Westport, he was the son of the late Edward and Martha (Maurer) Powers and had resided in Westport for 70 years before moving to Maine in 1995.
Prior to retiring in 1986, he owned and operated Powers Painting in Westport.
Powers was a member of Westport PAL, a former member of the Westport Striped Bass Club and a life member of the Greens Farms Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Westport Sportsman who honored him in 1989 with the PAL award.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 52 years includes one son, James A. Powers, Jr. and his wife Carol of Sabattus, one stepson, Thomas R. Fern and his companion Deborah Huber of Putnam, Conn., one stepdaughter, Muriel Knight of Lewiston, Maine, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Thomas M. Powers and George Powers.
The family will receive friends in the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. All are invited to attend a funeral service Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Harding Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Willowbrook Cemetery.
