Sue Jacozzi: moving up the ranks. Jonathan Thrope for WestportNow.com
The Westport-Weston Health District Board of Directors did not have to look far to find a new health director.
Today the board unanimously appointed Sue Jacozzi as the district’s health director.
An executive search committee recommended Jacozzi for the job and her term, contingent on approval by the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Health, will be for three years.
Jacozzi is replacing the recently retired director Judy Nelson, who held the post for 20 years.
After the board meeting, Jacozzi admitted that she had “big shoes to fill” but said she was “delighted and looking forward to the challenge.”
Jacozzi has worked with the Westport-Weston Health District since October 2000 and has had roles as the bioterrorism coordinator and the Target Lyme Disease coordinator.
She holds a B.S. in communications from Southern Connecticut State University as well as Masters of Public Health, with a specialization in Community Health Education, from the school.
After getting her masters in 1999, she began work in the Westport Weston Health District as a health education specialist. She filled in as director for five months after Nelson retired.

I am absolutely thrilled by the appointment of Sue Jacozzi to fill the health director position. She has bigger shoes than I, just look at her feet! I know that she will enjoy the position and the community as much as I have. Next week, I move to NC, but will be back for visits.
