Just in time for a fall cleanup, the Westport Fire Department Saturday will hold its annual household hazardous waste collection day.
The 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. event at the Westport Weston Health District, 180 Bayberry Lane, is open to residents seeking to get rid of items that cannot be disposed of in every day trash, according to Fire Marshall Fred S. Baker.
These include household cleaning products, paints, gardening supplies, propane tanks (empty or full), automotive supplies, mercury thermometers, fluorescent bulbs, NiCad batteries, and many other items, he said.
Baker said among products that will not be accepted are used motor oil, car batteries and tires. He said paints that have turned to a solid can be disposed with every day trash.
If residents are unable to attend, there are other collection dates in the future, he said. Call the Westport Fire Marshall’s Office at (203)341-5020 for times and locations.
