Helen E. Downs, 97

Helen E. Downs of Westport died July 8 at the Jewish Home for Senior Services in Bridgeport. She was 97.

She was born in Westport the daughter of the late Carmen and Mildred (Masucio) Arciola and has been a lifelong Westport resident.

She was a graduate of Staples High School class of 1938. Prior to retiring, she was the office manager for Westport Livery.

Once retired, she became a devoted stay-at-home mom and helped care for her mother who died at the age of 88, and other members of her family in their time of need.

She was admired for her cooking and baking skills. She touched the lives of so many people who loved her and enjoyed her company

She is survived by her daughter Debbie Kuban and her husband Paul of Raleigh, North Carolina,  one brother, Anthony Arciola of Westport, two grandchildren, Paul Kuban Jr. and his wife Amber and Jennifer Belward and her husband Shaun and five great-grandchildren, Aidan, Kyliegh, Taylor, Colin and Gavin.
 
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 15 from 9 a.m. to 9:35 a.m. when the funeral will leave the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, and proceed to Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Ave., for a mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery, 73 Greens Farms Road.
