UPDATE Heavy rains today led to power outages in Westport, Connecticut Light & Power Company said.
At 11 p.m., CL&P said all Westport customers had their power back after earlier reporting as many as 196 customers were affected.
Residents in the area of 5 Newtown Turnpike lost electric power in the late afternoon when a heavy rain downpour caused a tree branch to snap, pulling down a utility line.
John Albano, a resident around the corner on Columbine Lane, Norwalk said that the his power went off at 4:40 p.m.
Another neighbor on Columbine said, “The rains were so heavy that it felt just like (tropical storm) Irene a few weeks ago.”
CL&P workers arrived at the scene shortly after 5 p.m.

This wasn’t the reason I was hoping to make WestportNow! (LOL…I live at 5 Newtown Tpke) However - I will note that the good folks from CL&P and the Westport Police Dept are still on Newtown working diligently to get our power back on and keeping drivers safe - so kudos and thanks to them!
Yeah, well that’s what happens when you want to build a tree fort w/o a permit…or, was that a lemonade stand that I was supposed to help you man this weekend?
You may as well use the “plug” for something :) C’mon, Dorrie!
Oops, sorry, you did give a shout out to the fine folks at WPD :D and CL&P.
