The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Westport area, which is in effect until 6 p.m. today.
It said to expect heat index values in the mid-90s to around 100 degrees into the early evening.
The highest heat index values will occur mainly during the afternoon.
The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure. Extreme heat can cause illness and death among the at-risk population who cannot stay cool.
Meanwhile, an air quality alert is in effect from 11 a,m, to 11 p.m. with ground level ozone within the region which may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.
