The Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce is seeking storefronts and window painters for its annual townwide Halloween window painting contest.
The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21. Children of all ages are invited to put their artistic skills to work on merchant storefront windows to create the spookiest and/or best Halloween themed painting, an announcement said.
“This is a fun event to bring the community together, culminating with the great Halloween parade down Main Street,” said Matthew Mandell Executive Director of the WWCC. “What better way to get people in the spooky mood, than to have our kids decorate our town.”
There will be three age groups participating; elementary school, middle school and high school within the categories of Scariest Art Work, Best Halloween Theme and Most Original.
Judging will take place over the following few days by community members. The nine winners will get a picture of themselves with their window submitted to the press and receive a $25 gift certificate to Saugatuck Sweets.
Kids can paint independently or in teams.
The Chamber is seeking both sides of this process, kids and windows, with the goal of surpassing last year’s number of stores painted of 23.
“We have a great history of artists in Westport” said Betsy Pollack editor of Our Town Crier, who has been one of our judges, “this event allows kids to show off their talent and gets the community out to see all the great works.”
