George Thomas Capiris of Westport died Feb. 20 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was 51.

The son of Stella and George Capiris, he was a graduate of Staples High School where he was very active in sports and then went on to Pace University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree.

He received his graduation diploma upon completion of his religious education at the Sunday School Department of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Bridgeport. The late Bishop Silas bestowed upon him the office of Church Reader as a worthy and dedicated acolyte.

He played on the Holy Trinity basketball team where he received the award for the top player on the Midget team. He was a dedicated employee of the National Publisher Services Company where he excelled in computer systems.

A devoted Giants and Mets fan, he was also a golfer and was proud of the fact that he achieved a hole-in-one and was inducted into the National Hole in One Association.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Christopher (Marie), his goddaughter Carrie, his godfather Thomas Capiris (Betty Anne) and their daughters and their families, by his Uncle Terry Capiris (Margaret) and his cousins Tommy (Nikki) and their son, and by Cousin Joseph Capiris, and Christine and her children, by his Uncle James Englis (Angela) and their children George (Alyssa) and children, Michael (Evelyn) and their children, Anna (James), and his cousins Nickolas Nikolaidis (Cathy) and children, and by his cousins in Greece. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Ave., Bridgeport, and interment will follow at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Trisaigon Services commencing at 6 p.m. at the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St., Bridgeport.

The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, friends can make donations to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox in Bridgeport in his memory.
