The National Weather Service in Upton N.Y. has extended the flood warning for Westport and area until 10 p.m. It had been scheduled to end at 4 p.m.
A mid-afternoon advisory said light to occasionally moderate rainfall will fall across the area through this evening. While the rain has diminished in intensity—3 to 7 inches of rainfall has already fallen.
Unofficial readings in late afternoon in Westport showed just under 5 inches since Sunday.
The advisory said to expect continued moderate flooding across Fairfield County.
Meanwhile, a coastal flood advisory remained in effect until 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Tides running around 1.5 feet above astronomical levels will cause additional minor coastal flooding with the high tide cycle tonight, the Weather Service said.
High tide in Westport is at 12:23 a.m. Wednesday.
