Ticket sales for Westport’s annual Independence Day fireworks set to light up the night sky at sunset Thursday, July 3, are going strong, with more than half of the 2,000 tickets for entry to Compo Beach already sold at $35 a pop per car, according to Capt. Sam Arciola, president of the Police Athletic League (PAL).
“We’re very pleased with the ticket sales, and it’s first come first served, so I would urge people not to wait until the last minute,” Arciola said.
PAL is hosting the annual event underwritten again this year by Melissa & Doug, the Wilton-based children’s game company owned by Westporters Melissa and Doug Bernstein. Tickets are on sale at Westport Police Headquarters and the Parks and Recreation Department at Longshore Club Park.
Once the tickets are sold out for the internationally acclaimed Grucci family fireworks show, tickets for a shuttle service from Longshore Club Park will go on sale for the same price, Arciola said.
He noted that Parks and Recreation Department employees posted at Longshore will not permit fireworks goers to park at Longshore and walk to the beach.
“It’s just a wonderful event, and as every year, we look forward to a great fireworks show,” said Arciola. “I’m just looking for great weather. I wish we could order that.”
He added that in the event of rain, the fireworks will be held on Monday, July 7.
