The Westport Fire Department today announced it is offering a babysitting safety course open to Westport residents in November and December.
It is the first time since 2006 that the department has offered the course, which had fallen to budgetary cutbacks.
“This class is intended for young men and women 12- to 18-years-old who are interested in learning about safety topics related to babysitting,” an announcement said.
Course topics will include: babysitter basics, babysitter responsibilities, identifying hazards, fire safety, demonstration and hands-on practice using fire extinguishers, child safety, babysitter safety, home safety, outdoor safety, CPR (with certification), and basic first aid (with certification).
Course dates are Saturdays Nov. 4, Nov. 11, Nov. 18, Dec. 2, and Dec. 9 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Classes 1 – 3 will be held at the Westport Fire Headquarters classroom, 515 Post Rd. East, and classes 4 and 5 at the the Westport Emergency Medical Services classroom, 50 Jesup Road.
Cost is $25 (cost of CPR/First Aid book) payable to Westport Volunteer EMS. Class size is limited to the first 16 students registered. To register, contact the Westport Fire Marshal’s Office no later than Monday, Oct. 30 at (203) 341-5020.
