Congregants of Temple Israel in Westport were given empty grocery bags at Rosh Hashanah and asked to fill them with hearty groceries for those needing some help and return them during Yom Kippur. A temple member hands over a bag before today’s worship service. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Phyllis Groner for WestportNow.com

We are very grateful to the Temple for this food drive. It is the largest single source of food for the Food Pantry, located in the Gillespie Center at 45 Jesup Road. We have been giving away food at a record rate since the beginning of the year. Thanks to the generosity of the congregants of the Temple the pantry will be able continue this important outreach. We give 2 prepacked grocery bags of food to anyone who comes the the Gillespie Center. Recipients may come back biweekly. We are only able to do this b/c so many are so generous to us.
