Even the Marshes Get Cleaned Up

Marsh cleanup by Lynn U. Miller
Members of Westport’s Sunrise Rotary and students and advisers from Builders Beyond Borders gathered at Old Mill Beach today to pick up garbage. One group spread out over the marshes behind the Mill Pond. They collected a lot of plastic bags, Styrofoam cups, and even came across an old concrete tub. The trash in the areas around Old Mill Beach and the marshes filled more than 80 black garbage bags. Following the clean-up, Sunrise Rotary provided pizza for everyone at the Compo Beach Pavilion. Builders Beyond Borders is a nonprofit organization that sends high school students to impoverished countries where they work to help build homes. The students, who raise the money to cover their travel expenses and building materials, also devote time to community service in their hometown. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Lynn U.
