Westport-based Social Venture Partners Connecticut (SVP-CT) has awarded a $50,000 grant to Westport’s Earthplace, The Nature Discovery Center.
It was one of three grants totaling $150,000 announced by the philanthropic organization that provides multi-year support to nonprofits in the form of cash grants, loans and hands-on assistance by its members.
SVP-CT said the Earthplace grant will benefit its Harbor Watch program, which performs water quality testing for southwestern Connecticut watersheds that impact Long Island Sound. It also educates students and volunteers through hands-on research and experiential learning.
SVP-CT’s volunteer team, SVP members with extensive business and entrepreneurial expertise, is currently working with the nonprofit to develop a business plan to better capitalize the Harbor Watch program, an announcement said.
Other $50,000 awards went to Connecticut Pre-Engineering Program and International Institute of Connecticut (iiCONN). The funding will assist these entities in further developing and strengthening their capacity and amplify their impact upon their community, SVP-CT said.
Since its inception in 2013, the Partners of SVP-CT have awarded $250,000 in grants and loans and given more than 500 volunteer hours of skilled strategic support to local nonprofits.
SVP-CT is currently evaluating Letters of Interest and will announce its 2015 grant recipients later this spring, the announcement said.
