Westport’s Earthplace, the Nature Discovery and Environmental Learning Center, has added two new trails in its sanctuary.
This addition increases the mileage and circumference of its trail network.
The new Wolf Trail runs along Stony Brook and connects with the popular Swamp Loop Trail. This trail was cut to highlight a Wolf Tree that is more than 100 years old and predates when the area used to be farmland.
On the second new trail, the Fox Tail Trail, there has been a confirmed sighting of an Eastern Box Turtle, a species of special concern in Connecticut due to its low population.
The new trails were planned in conjunction with the commission of a new trail map for Earthplace, funded by the Westport Woman’s Club Ruegg Grant.
The new topographical map and the new trails will debut at the Earthplace Festival on Sunday, Oct. 4.
The Earthplace Festival is Earthplace’s annual outdoor celebration of fall filled with fun for the whole family.
It will feature seasonal games, crafts and activities, as well as food trucks and beer.
The festival will run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. Admission tickets are $10 for children and $5 for adults. Children under 2 are free.
