DUI Arrest Follows Utility Pole Crash

Officers arrested a Westport woman for operating under the influence and interfering with an officer after the drove her vehicle into a utility pole last month, police said today.

Stephanie Wiedman, 35, of 9 Garden Lane, turned herself in on a warrant Wednesday.

Following the 11:30 p.m. July 18 crash at 297 Greens Farms Road, Wiedman was found sitting next to her white Toyota, which sustained heavy front end damage, said Lt. David Farrell.

“Officers could smell a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath, and her eyes were red and glassy,” Farrell said.

He said that Officer Ashley DelVecchio submitted a search warrant for the alcohol content in Weidman’s blood, and the state’s toxicology lab reported Wiedman’s blood ethanol value was .21, nearly three times the legal limit.

Released on a $500 bond, she is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Friday, Aug. 26.
