Officers arrested a homeless man Sunday for stealing money from the tip jar at SoNo Baking Company and for threatening to kill the cashier, police said today.
According to Lt. David Farrell, the incident at the 44 Church Lane eatery happened around 8:30 a.m.
He said that officers later found a male matching the description of the suspect, who had fled the scene on a bicycle, at the Gillespie Center, the town’s homeless shelter on Jesup Road.
Dave Phillips, 55, was charged with threatening, disorderly conduct and sixth-degree larceny, police said.
“The male, identified as Dave Phillips, stated he used the money he stole to buy cigarettes,” said Farrell. “The cashier positively identified Phillips as the male who threatened to kill her.”
Held on a $2,500 bond, he is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Friday, Aug. 12.

You threaten to kill someone, and that’s the amount of bond? I don’t understand? Way too low, imo.
