The Westport Conservation Commission has scheduled its first work session to deliberate on the Westport Weston Family Y’s application to move its facility from downtown to Camp Mahackeno.
The commission will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday to start its work on rendering a decision, and Conservation Director Alicia Mozian said it could be the first of four sessions on the topic.
While the sessions are open to the public, the commission’s work sessions are closed to public comment and submissions. The meeting will be televised on the town’s cable channel 79 and streamed on its Web site.
Mozian said the commission will need to tell the staff at its first meeting how it may want to vote or what issues they have with the application.
Once the staff knows the commission’s thinking, she said, they can do research and back up it’s thoughts and reasoning with information from the testimony.
The Conservation Commission held a record number of meetings during the public hearing portion of the application. It closed the public hearing last Wednesday.
Family Y officials are planning to move the facility from the corner of Main Street and Post Road East to the north side of Camp Mahackeno, and they have already received approvals from the Flood and Erosion Control Board and the state Department of Environmental Protection.
If the Conservation Commission approves the application, Family Y officials would then submit a site plan application to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
