Weekday work related to dredging of the Ned Dimes Marina at Compo Beach will be extended to 10 p.m. in order to meet a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers deadline, the Westport Department of Public Works announced today.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ permit for the dredging stipulates that in-water work must be completed by Feb. 1, 2015, an announcement said.
It said the contractor, FGB Construction, requested that the weekday work hours be extended in order to complete the project within the specified time period.
This standard permit condition is imposed to protect the fishery and shellfish resources, the announcement said. A significant portion of the work is further limited by specific tidal cycles, according to department officials.
