James Cañón, who made his literary debut with “Tales from the Town of Widows,” was guest speaker today at the Westport Public Library and was introduced by the library’s Joan Hume. Set in a small Colombian mountain village, the novel tells the story of how the village women learned to survive and create a peaceful new community after their men were kidnapped by Communist guerrillas. Cañón was born and raised in Colombia. He moved to New York to study English and later earned his MFA in creative writing from Columbia University.
